The Surrender Series (1-6)
Nature offers me a release from the quotidian demands of life. I seek refuge in the tall pines and fragrant wetlands around my house, in the briny aroma of New York City’s waterfront, and wherever my feet take me. As a photographer, it is only natural that I move through life with a camera close at hand. The desire to capture the beauty and tranquility of my surroundings is strong, but I have grown frustrated with the limitations of a single frame. I started experimenting with shooting multiple exposures on expired film with my medium format camera. I fell in love with the simultaneous complexity and simplicity of making images that I have very little control over. The process itself demands that I just let go. It encourages success and failure in equal measure. It courts mystery and ultimately, surrender.
