About

Artist

By nature, teaching is a very creative enterprise. I am constantly evolving in thought and action, making connections and interpretations, and examining the expressive process as I teach. As a result, my personal work has become a place to reflect on a very intimate level. I take my time in completing projects, lingering on the process to feed my soul, and at times, find stillness in a hectic life. I am, at my core, a student and a teacher, an enthusiastic novice and a skilled professional. Ultimately, I am a consummate traveler in the realm of culture and the human experience.

Educator

I currently serve on the faculty of the Packer Collegiate Institute as a studio art teacher, museum educator and co-curator for their dedicated exhibition space, the Carol Shen Gallery. In 2010 I created a school-wide museum education program that provides multidisciplinary experiences in the gallery for all learners. Additionally, I am a member of Packer’s Global Education Task Force, with a particular focus on global competency in childhood education.

Together with colleague and long-time friend Elizabeth Eagle, I formed e2 education & environment to support our work in global education and visual literacy. I have worked diligently to blend my interests and experiences, inspirations and curiosities. I have served as both studio art educator and visiting artist (locally and internationally), designed and lead gallery experiences for K-12 in a variety of disciplines, and created programs dedicated to empowering students through peer-to-peer learning and visual literacy. I have managed classrooms and developed curricula for a diverse range of communities and learning environments. As a curriculum specialist, I have designed site-specific curricula for the New York City Parks Department, among other institutions, focused on environmental science, art and activism.

I have a BFA in photography from SUNY Purchase and a MSE from Bank Street College, specializing in place-based education and cross-cultural learning. I am a trained and extremely enthusiastic VTS practitioner.
