The Surrender Series (1-5) - Color

Nature offers me a release from the quotidian demands of life. I seek refuge in the tall pines and fragrant wetlands around my house, in the briny aroma of New York City’s waterfront and wherever my feet take me. As a photographer, it is only natural that I move through life with a camera close at hand. The desire to capture the beauty and tranquility of my surroundings is strong, but I have grown frustrated with the limitations of a single frame. I started experimenting with shooting multiple exposures on expired film with my medium format camera. I fell in love with the simultaneous complexity and simplicity of making images that I have very little control over. The process itself demands that I just let go. It encourages success and failure in equal measure. It courts mystery and ultimately, surrender.

The Surrender Series is an ongoing project. Currently, it is in its sixth iteration.
